Hi all,
who pop in from time to time. It is quite disappointing seeing the traffic in this forum. I'm in a couple of forums of different nature and am sad to say, this place is really quiet. The most active forum I've participated in is a car forum. I can post a query and get back pages of reply from enthusiasts all over the island. I get nods and smiles from drivers of vehicle of my make. I bump into such drivers in the carpark and a friendly conversation ensues. These people are from all walks - Ah Beng look-alikes who warm up to a geek like me immediately, sleek salesman type who bothers to stop for a chat, ladies who respond with a modest smile and I'm still waiting to meet more of them out there. I wonder if we could find that kind of fervour, or if the latter sentiment is too strong, perhaps interest would suffice, among Singaporeans for Words. I'm sorry if I've been discouraging and please don't take it negatively. I belong to the same breed as you all, only more diffident and less courageous. I'm the kind who even hide my aspiration to write behind the closet door away from my own self. I can't imagine myself capable of writing anything worth reading. It is too risky and unprofitable a venture to write. I wonder how many out there share the same sentiment. I'm locked in a dead-end job with a family to look after. I am not passionate about my mundane life, are you? I want to be a travel writer because that's all I've ever wanted to be, but that is not to be. Any lobang out there?

Yo yo yo.
The old forum is rather active, though I didn't really post much. But am now trying an effort to make some noise here.
Thinks everyone's busy. Working a job they don't seem to like. Earning the money to buy things they don't seem to need.
There's a phrase in fight Club which I think goes like this:
"We are the middle children of history. We have no great war. No great depression. Our great war is with ourselves. Our great depression is our lives."
Even M. Chu hasn't been in action here for a while.
Shouldn't complain too much...hehe...mrlee if you also got lobang uh...let me know...

Yeah, I should be glad that there are Singaporeans publishing works that are credited in some ways. Gives us a glimmer of hope doesn't it? These are the few well known characters around because they are the only active ones. Kudos to them for willingly commiting themselves to an ardous task like writing. Writing is an activity that takes on a life itself after some time. You realize that you write and become more conscious of your thoughts and wants. You are externalizing yourself but in the process, the order gets reversed; instead of manipulating words to express yourself, you find as you write, words found you. Words unravel the fogs of your mind. It is like subtle enlightenment, in which revealed to you are snippets of a view that has been elusive thus far, till you write; and to see more, you write more and then the craft would have captured you. So then, who's the master? You or Words? You are all the time trying to tame it, but to do so, you have to first obey it - its syntax, its semiotics, its entire nexus of codes and behaviours. Very soon, I fall in defeat before it, aided by the call of duty from my boss in his office. Gotta go, see ya ayk...

Hi mrLee28 and ayk,

With regards to lobang for travel writer, perhaps you may want to take a peek at:-
http://www.Travel-Writing.net

**********************************************************************

Also, if not already done so, why not try sending your article to a local daily like TODAY or your town council's publication with two or three accompanying photographs (or let them know that you can supply the photographs, if they find the article to be of interest to them).

Be glad to hear of your successes with publication in due course.

Mr. Lee, hang in there. You have got what it takes in terms of talent. Your posts are so beautifully written! Are you into fiction or poetry or only travel writing? Why not share some extracts of your work for all to see and comment.
