Concealed Exit Ahead

- Nonsense prose poem read at the launch of Cyril Wong's The End Of His Orbit, Aug 25, 2001

open window

what does the boy hear in the wind

why why

ghost of a stir

here goes a fly

by night bird

strea bleek over edg of white

absent vowl

a toy

head revolving

freaky

night

in

gale

quick flip page

enraged

the fowl flung out of cage

missing persons winnowed by sense

tense

he watches the stars

go out

what s dat

bats

hear what the human ear can t

while a clandestine ray

glides over dreamer

devil fish

angel

or apostrophe

flee

here s a dish for easy empathy

downed with assumptions

and after words

toss plastic bag into the sea

black against blight of a very certain star

startled

he sees images

only beautiful images

sagely clear

papyrus white

why why

fly undone

what s the poetry worth

saddled with cross

heavy

poultry addled in meaning

no rotting

hot night

a head

dotted with pot

holes detours dead ends

so look above

half moon

catacomb

smoked with secrets

traffic amber flickering

a lost sheep or two

hoo

is the northern star

the way home

and how does the magus

paddle to slip

here s a sleep

road to temptation

horizon

the godly rule that leads to a clean mellifluous future

slowly

suture unstitching

the end crowing

stow

a way

driving

close

to the bend

a

happy

hen
