Room

so that was the room
i left vacant for you -
with the clothes we shared, the photographs,
that pair of shoes you left,
some friends, and some songs,
that sort of thing -

gathering dust in long afternoons.
to re-enter now is no longer an adventure
in a recess thick with your cologne -

more a closet now, and then a drawer
then a shoebox of photographs -
then worn out shoes.
